Redstart / Gartenrotschwanz

The Redstart is a species of bird of the flycatcher family (Muscicapidae), formerly the genus with other schmätzerähnlichen species among the thrushes (Turdidae) were counted. It inhabits Eurasia east to Lake Baikal and parts of North Africa and the Middle East. As cave and Halbhöhlenbrüter he inhabits mainly light deciduous forests, parks and gardens with mature trees. He is a Transsaharazieher who makes his way to the winter quarters already in late summer. Since the beginning of the 1980s, the stocks of the species have declined sharply, but seem to stabilize at a low level in recent years. The entire stock of redstart is not considered endangered. For the year 2011 he was voted Bird of the Year in Germany. [2] In Switzerland he was bird of the year 2009.
